The GTi does not need to be physically connected to the Air at all, only through WiFi. In my case they are physically connected, but only as I route one of the Air's 12V outputs to the GTi for powering the mount.
One step that is easy to miss, is that on the GTi (actually within its app, SynScan Pro) when setting it up in Station Mode, the text in the Air/GTi manual refers to using the SSID "ASIAIR _Dev.Fei". This is simply the SSID of your Air, so you'll need to check the SSID that your own Air uses in your controller's WiFi networks info page (phone/tablet, whatever you use to control the Air).
This is the page from the setup manual...PS this manual only provides instructions for setting up a WiFi connection between the devices, not using a wired Ethernet. In fact, the GTi doesn't have a wired Ethernet interface port, so you can't control it this way.
HTH as when working its incredible that the GTi can be guided between 0.8-2 arc-sec (RMS) accuracy, <1 continuously with good seeing.

those are the instructions I followed and mine works ok over WiFi. I have seen this problem though so I've got into the routine of powering up the Air first and then firing up the GTi (not Quattro lol). I've found this to be reliable now. I also go on to control the scope from SkySafari and this works very well when imaging. Good luck!
could you please tell me how you wire things up? am i right in connecting the gti(not the quattro lol) to the asiair with an ethernet cable provided? il try what you said on sunday once i finish work

as soon as i get to the telescope settings part and follopw the guid i just get Connection failed.mount not connected.now my azgti is connected to my ASiAir via ethernet,im sure its supposed to connect via wifi but it just doesnt pick it up,its so frustrating, has anyone any workflow, tips or tricks to getting these mounts connected?

Hi easiest way is to get the dedicated reducer/flatner it is sold at FLO
This and the associated adapter will get you the correct spacing and a nice flat field also
Just don't have 169 big ones spare right now
wouldn't a t ring and 2 inch t adapter be a much cheaper alternative to get focus on stars? I'm not looking for perfect images I just want to be able to focus and have some fun once these clouds go away
-
I recently acquired this lovely scope and I was wondering what I specifically need to get it to focus with my canon 550d,I've read that I need to increase back focus? Sorry if I sound stupid but I get confused about different sized threads and spacers/flatteners etc, would I be able to purchase what's needed rather cheap?

I have a 72ed on the way,I'm planning to use it for AP,am I right in thinking I just need a basic 2 inch extension tube to achieve focus?
-
Hi,great picture! Do you need a 2 inch extension tube to achieve focus when attaching a DSLR to the 72ed?

It always slews in the wrong direction when you are setting up goto.. After it has finished it's misguided slew, just loosen the clutches, point it at the moon and click the finish alignment option. Go-to operations after that are fine.
Incidentally the Moon is the hardest object for a go-to system to find - it's precise absolute position varies from hour to hour. For the same reason the Moon is a bad choice as an alignment star.
For the Moon and planets I just point the scope at the target and click point-and-track, I don't set up goto.
Thanks for the reply I'll give that a shot next time

Well, this is experimental, so the best way is to try and see for yourself I've had more success in Alt Az than EQ mode, and I'm still trying to figure out a few things, but it looks promising. Sorry, I can't help you more!
Well today the moon was out high SW in the sky so I thought I'd get the gti out,set up,level pointing north, chose moon as my one star alignment and it slewed in the total wrong direction, not too sure what to do with this mount anymore,it can't even find the moon ;(

For imaging, yes. But you need to reset and redo a 2-3 stars alignment after the polar alignment, otherwise the adjustments you made for polar alignment will mess up the Go-To. At least that's how I do and it works well enough
I'm guessing if I manually slew the first star alignment with encoders on then the second star should be right in my fov,I sure hope so,I love the portability of this mount and I'm going to Lithuania next month in a place where there is no light pollution at all and I'd love to get this mount accurate

I might just stick to alt az mode for a while,I'm quite new to all this but deeply fascinated by space,I don't get many clear nights in Manchester so gotta make the most of it.
Just one more thing, just to see if I'm doing things right.
I set my home to 90 -90 and start from there with my latitude at 90 minuse my actual latitude,2 star alignment followed by polar alignment and I'm good to go in eq mode?

Perhaps you can try following this tutorial, and see if you're missing something: https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/658474-skywatcher-synscanaz-gti-alignment-instructions/
I have it set up just like that yeah with a dslr and 200mm lens, start off pointing north, begin alignment, go tos are miles off every time, ill check that video out thankyou

hi guys, newbie here but I'm having a tough time with this azgti mount and would need some step by step help with its set up.
I have it in equatorial mode with the wedge,i set it facing north at 90 minus my latitude,i try a one star alignment, ask it to go to Arcturus and itll head west instead of southwest, totally puzzled by this,no matter what I ask it to go to it goes nowhere near it,any tips?
azgti connection problem,i messed up
