So, a week ago, just after the new moon, I went observing with my friends . We found a pretty nice bortle 5 sky and decided to set up my SkyWatcher heritage 130p. I could just make out andromeda with the naked eye.Through the scope I could see m32 and m110 in the same view with just a little more if not only andromeda s core. I used a 25mm eyepiece at 26x. Is what i saw normal? Or is the view underwhelming because andromeda is low on the horizon? What does it take to see all of andromeda ?

The sky was clear tonight, so I hopped out to my backyard with my 8”dob. Sketch wasn’t really that good but is about accurate . I need to get a red torch smh... too bad I have to order one online as I can’t find any near me.

Whoops! I Have definetly seen m92 and seem to have forgotten to put it in my observed list! Thanks for pointing that out, a 70mm scope?(i suppose its a refractor) Holy molly, it must be way harder to get nice views with an instrument of such aperature. My back yards light pollution is pretty bad, so bad in fact i can rarely split any stars in globular clusters such as m13 and andromeda appears as just the core all with my 8". I spotted m51 at a star party i went to and i didnt try to tease out any detail at all, just appeared as 2 fuzzy spots. Tried many times in my backyard but constantly failed.They recently added new LED street lamps too now...so even worse.I can say some of my best views were as follows: M42:when you have a clear night and the neighbors finally decide to close their lights and the sky becomes just a tiny bit better , orion comes to life.After observing m42 for days on end i could just make out the outline of its 2 wings with my 8" dob(that was last year). After getting a lot better at observing, as my heritage 130p arrived(2 weeks ago) , i decided i could go to a darker sky. There i could make out almost all the nebulosity in the left wing and some on the right with the 5". It looked almost like this(sent a sketch). Dark skies do wonders...

Another fantastic observation had to be Plotemy's cluster, M7: I went to my fathers home island, Symi, JUST 2000 Residents!! an island with very small levels of light pollution. We drove 30 minutes into a mountain top with a small house there. I believe it was a bortle 2-3. It was amazing. The milky way looked just like the pictures, i couldnt believe my eyes. i could see M6,M7,M8,M24,M17,M31 naked eye easily. There, i had my cheap 20$ 8x50 binos and i turned my eye to M7 and what i saw was amazing. A huge star cluster filled with endless stars  filled my field of view. it was like a huge globular cluster you could split into stars. with m6 in the view , it was spectacular.

There are a lot of honorable mentions like the time i saw a bright glob through a bortle 3 with an 8" but thats a story for another day.

 

if you want to talk about observations i m all ears. i am curious to see what an eager observer can do with such a small instrument.

upThank you joe aguiar! but i found the source of the problem, the secondary mirror seems to be moving side to side too easily,like the mirror moves so easily yesterday, the wind moved my mirror out of place and it needed collimation again.so i believe the problem is its hanging too loose? I am talking about this thing right here(Telescope in pic is the Celestron Firstscope 76), i tried losening the screw that holds it in place and it behaves exactly as my heritage scope. However , the heritage doesnt have a screw i can screw so i can tighten it, any other ways i can do so? 

P.S i am showing you the image of my Celestron Firstscope because i left my heritage at my friends house as today we will be going on a trip to the mountains close to his place so it will be easier for me to carry the scope.

Hey guys, last night I went out to a sub urb location with my scope. It was way better than my back yard.I could see more of the Orion nebula in my 5" dob than I could in my backyard with my 8" dob(focus was kind of weird with the manual focuser) but after a little bit things started to get weird, I noticed that the views started to get way worse, after I checked on the scope I saw this little ring of (dirt??? I don't how I live in an island close to the sea so it might be dew causing this?)only visible when using a flashlight In the center of the secondary mirror. Not only that but the secondary also somehow moved a lot and the scope had become uncollimated. I suppose I accidentally nudged it over , for some reason the secondary Is really loose. Another thing I noticed is that there was a lot of excess light in my view. I realised then that I am in need of a light shroud.

 

Questions: Should I clean the secondary mirror? What is this ring !

How can I make the secondary mirror more still? Like can I tighten some screws or something? I want it to move only when im using a screwdriver.

How could I make a light shroud? I have seen multiple threads but none really helped me. Is there any tutorial available?

Also, when I say it blinked , I mean this:It was already bright, but just before it disappeared it became extra bright and sended “a shockwave of light throughout the sky” if that makes sense? Appeared near the Sagittarius patch of the sky.

I don’t think that’s the case guys. The object was traveling only slightly slower than all the other meteors in the summer. Definitely faster than the iridium flares I saw in videos

Back in the beginning of August, I went to a Bortle 2sky in Symi, Greece with my dad, I remember catching something in my peripheral vision as I was talking to my him. After  that, I turned to see what it was. It was an incredibly bright(around -3 mag) meteorcrossing the sky. After about a second  it disappeared right after blinking so brightly, that even my dad who was facing the opposite direction got scared and asked me, “what the heck was that?” can anybody describe what I saw? 

Hey! I know this isn’t exactly sketching but anyway, I got a little bored and decided to draw some space objects.

Dont expect anything good, as I have never been good at drawing or at shading, I just did it for fun!

First comes a wide FOV view of m31.I didnt sketch it by looking at an image, I was just bored at school

The next drawing was of a globular cluster. Not sure which 😂just wanted to draw one.

Up next is m51. Like andromeda, I was bored at school and just drew this to pass the time. I didnt look at an image so the spiral arms may not be in the correct way or shape.

Here is m42, the Orion Nebula, it was quite difficult to get the shading right(which I didn’t  ) because the nebula is so complex

overall very fun to drawAnd last but not least, the Bug nebula, this one was my favourite!

Hi there! I’m looking forward towards purchasing a new wide FOV eyepiece from FLO (first light Optics ) and I do to know which one to pick!

i will be using it on my f/6 8” Skywatcher dob and hoping to get good views of the Orion’s nebula , (large nebulae in general) andromeda and others.

I ve heard the panaview 32mm is a good choice but I d like to know about the other options as well. I would like the budget to be around 100€

binoviewers have clear apertures at 20mm eyepieces and that higher focla lengths eyepices , will suffer from vintaging. Is that true? What is vintaging and how can it affect my views?

Hello again, I  am stuck choosing between these 2 eyepieces: the Explore Scientific 1.25” 62° 40mm and The Panaview 32mm 2”.

i am aware that  they are similar in magnification , however I want to know which is best in quality. Is there any difference at all, and if there is, is it big?

Hello, I am most likely buying a binoviewer for my 8” f/6 Skywatcher Dobsonian,I have most of the magnifications covered, however I don’t have any eyepieces pair for wide field observation. I was wondering, could my scope and binoviewers take two Vixen 40mm eyepieces successfully? (Of course with a Barlow to reach focus) .If not so, which paid can I use that won’t cost me more than 100€?

Hello, it’s been a while, I ve been studying for my English proficiency exam and haven’t been able to do much observing. Aside from catching glimpses of Jupiter and Saturn here and there, it’s been a quiet summer. Now that we’re drifting into winter, it’s time I made some upgrades to My equipment, as here in Greece, we have a tradition of knocking on people s doors on Christmas Eve, singing the carols and be given money and candy in return.Every year I grab my violin and stay from day to night playing get enough to upgrade my collection 😁 , lucky me . Primarily , I will be getting a 14mm Explore Scientific 82° eyepiece and the Skywatcher heritage 130p to help me observe in remote locations. The last addition I am considering to buy is a pair of binoviewers. I am very excited about this concept as i find using only one of my eyes during planetary and sometimes nebula observation rather uncomfortable. I am planning to using this on my 8” Skywatcher dob, and maybe the heritage 130p.When I buy the heritage I will get the 2 stock eyepieces I got with my dob , so I will have 2 sets of eyepieces ready to go, then I will buy a second 8mm bst starguider  for these rare clear nights and maybe in the future another 14mm explore scientific. The question is, will they work with my eyepieces or my telescope? What will I need besides a Barlow and which binoviewers should I get?

lesson learned:Never take your eyepiece apart...

 

Sooo after coming back from holidays(have been gone for a month and a half) i discovered that i had forgotten to use the lens caps to protect my Panaview 32mm from dust....

turns out, its dirty.Me having no idea what a "multiple element lens eyepiece " meant , learnt the hard way. I unscrewed the bottom part of the eyepiece and 2 lenses and a tiny ring came out... not knowing in how to put them in, tried a bunch of different ways, and still the eyepiece view was still bad.(couldnt even focus on daylight objects) after messing with it for a bit 3-5 more lenses came out. Now my 100$ eyepiece is totally screwed up and i have No idea how to fix it. I m panicking so much and i have absolutely no idea what to do. I hope i ddnt screw the lens up...

  if anyone thinks they can help me, i m gonna make a system in which you can tell me how to put the lenses back

So lets name the first group of parts depending on their place from left to right : A(The first lens ), B(the ring) and C( The Thrid lens) , now, these i have no idea how to place them correctly (have in mind that A Is curved , if it gives you any information)

The next 4 pieces you see are D(The thick ring), E(The big lens) F (the other ring) and G(the final lens)

If anyone could give me instructions to as how i can put everything back together , i would be greatful
