I've recently bought a 72ed with a zwo asi183mc attached to it
You can always bin 2x2 with the 183 which would technically give you 4.8 um and a resolution of 1.05"/pixel.

Brought the ZWO version a week ago to replace my old Altair 385c. Seems like a decent upgrade on the old 385, only had limited time to use on the moon so far but should make a good EAA chip. Here is a quick roi image i took the other night with the 585 with a uv/ir cut filter on my C925 of Aristarchus and Schroters valley.

Looks like you had a very busy night/morning When taking a master flat, open the histogram when setting an exposure time and try and keep the peeks between 30%-70% and ( iirc ) the master dark needs to have the same settings as the lights ( exposure time, temp if cooled camera, etc. ) but you seem to be doing ok Been a while since i done some quality EAA, think i need a few sessions

Any mount suggestions?
If the heq5 is too expensive for you, then i really do not have a mount suggestion. The mount is the most important part of the system as i am sure everyone will tell you here. It may be worth waiting for the smaller brother to the AM5 from ZWO ( announced a few days ago ) but this will probably cost 1k+ It will be a harmonic drive and guessing a payload of around 10kg's and probably weigh around 3kg's. Of course this is speculation but this may be a perfect portable platform for EAA and ap. In the mean time you can stick with your current plans until the 'itch' for longer exposures becomes too great ( what camera do you have or considering ? )
Edit: AM3 ( new ZWO mount ) Weighs 4kg's and a payload of 8kg's without counterweights.

If you have any inkling that you may do longer exposures ( 30 secs + ) down the road, you will be better off getting an eq mount now. I started out with an alt/az when i first decided to do EAA and wished i never bothered as it only took a few sessions before i wanted longer exposures.
Don't be deterred about polar aligning, with modern equipment it is easier than you probably think That is what scared me off originally but with ipolar and now asiair it literally takes a few minutes ( as long as your mount is fairly level and pointing roughly north ) and with the new harmonic mounts you don't even have to worry about counterweights and balancing.

Always seem to struggle with planets but had a go the other night. C925 and 294mc pro with a 2.5x barlow. Stacked in AS3 best 40% of 3.5k and 1.5 drizzle, Wavelets in registax and final processing in Gimp.

Nice first light images, have you taken any more since then. have you any previous Oiii filters to compare the new 4.5nm too, I currently have Baader 8.5nm Oiii and try to decide which narrower filter to upgrade too.
Cheers
Lee
Hi Lee,
Unfortunately this is my first narrowband set, so cannot help with any comparison. I have only managed 1 night out since then, hoping to get out next week if weather permits, week off work Please see link below, I managed to get some data on the crescent that night.
Steve.

Nicely done, I like the Aristarchus and Gassendi.
What was the seeing like?
I looked at it and decided it was too low, and there were clouds coming in, although I want to get Aristarchus.Thank you, seeing was average and was undecided whether to set up or not, but I really wanted to try the 533 on the Moon

I think both would be excellent - pay your money take your choice.
I have the SM90 and it is excellent in terms of colour correction and imaging. The only thing I did find was that when I was running it as part of a dual rig the focus drifted more than the ED80 I was also running. This might be down to the carbon tube slowing the cooling process. However, until I use it some more in the autumn I cannot be sure. The other option is the TS version which is essentially the same as the SM90 but with a metal tube.
Teleskop-Express: TS-Optics CF-APO 90 mm f/6 FPL55 Triplet APO Refractor with Certificate
TS also have a few good value ex-demo scopes that are well worth a look.
Just be aware, buying from Germany and shipping to the U.K. may incur duties from customs and excise, making it more expensive than buying similar items in the U.K.

Newbie Beginner here. Learning every day in an attempt to make wise decisions before wading in.
Is it the moonlight that causes the images - especially NGC 4298 - 4147 - 3753 to have the cloud like center ?
I love seeing examples of those dim galaxies.
Thank You
Hi and welcome,
The op is not using flats, which causes the 'bright circle' ( vignetting ) some stacking software like sharpcap allow you to add a master flat and dark before hand which will result in a more evenly illuminated image and eliminate the dust spots and hot pixels for the most part. I am sure the op and others will weigh in but I hope this explains a little

I did manage to capture a few frames of SII and OII the other morning while testing, It was getting light when captured, but thought I would post here for anyone who is interested. These are single 5 minute frames with the Antlia 4.5nm and a single auto stretch in Siril, noting else. Stars may look a little off towards the edges as I need to correct spacing on the reducer

Nice I would suggest perhaps using a ( free ) program like Siril. Your pic has a green cast and this can easily be removed using 'remove green noise' in Siril. As i am sure you know this is due to the Bayer patern ( 2 green to 1 blue/red ) Hope you don't mind but i ran the 'remove green noise' and nothing else in Siril.

Manged to get set up and capture a few frames with the new camera and filter. A starless image of the Pelican using the 61 EDPH II and reducer, 4.5nm Antlia Ha and the 533 mono. 7 x 300 seconds ( 100 gain, -15c ) using a master dark in sharpcap and no flats.
And the original stack with just a histogram stretch in Siril

Cuiv recently did a video using the 2 dual band filters, perhaps you may find some of the info useful
