I have to say that the word "autofocuser" as used by the various companies who manufacture these is a bit misleading, it gives the impression that you just push a button and it actually brings your image to focus.

A parts list and schematic would be handy looks an interesting project, I doubt whether the USB would power the motor as the USB power is only 5v....worth a try tho if it would do away with the battery.
Someone who built a similar unit on here says it does, and I think the commercial FCUSB unit does as well.

Looks like you're powering from a PP3 then as the original handset? probably better than powering from the USB anyway as it will only flatten the battery quicker.
Have you had chance to give it a good tryout yet?
What's the serial connector for?

I've had a play around with this and it seems VERY good :-
AutoPano Pro - Panorama stitching software - Panoramic photo software - image stitching

OK, I've copied and pasted this lot and made it all into a PDF file, had to do some formatting, like making the text black, removing the pale yellow which doesn't show up well on a black background, so made the subs as bold underlined.

For anyone whos after cases for equipment I have a tip. I'm a DJ, and trust me, DJ's spoil their kit with regards casing it up, so have a look at DJ flight case suppliers, had a quick look at one of the suppliers I've used before and found this :-
Pro Audio Stash » Gator Microphone Case » Microphone » Flight Cases
Gator cases are quite good and are made of military grade PVC so are fairly light in weight.

I can't give rother valley optics enought praise, in fact I've ordered from them again today (pair of EQ5 slowmo extenders and an SW 32mm Panaview EP) They have NEVER let me down, great service, great prices (and price matching) and always good advice.
Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone!

My feedback, overall, I think this is the best of the bunch with regards astronomy forums, I always do my homework when going into something and astronomy was no exception, also, being highly computer literate and a veteran of all things online, even back to sysoping an Amiga BBS before the net existed, I also check out online facilities, I chose to make SGL my home for a good reason ;o)
However (yes, there's always one of those)
being technical myself (all things computer) I know it's easy to revert to tech speak even when talking to inexperienced people, is there any chance the more experienced guys could add in brackets from time to time some of the things you naturally take for granted that people know, prime example M31, or NGC 224 could you sometimes add (Andromeda Galaxy) onto the m and NGC numbers as it helps the learning curve quite a bit, also even things like the parts of a telescope mount that are regularly abbreviated. Have to say though that's the only thing, OH, except, can people start comin in a bit more often and posting, I keep running out of things to read!
I also still need to know why it is that so many people in astronomy, especially shops etc sound like geography teachers.

My autofocuser controller box went faulty on Wednesday night, I immediately parcelled it up and put it in the post Thursday morning, lo and behold, this morning (Saturday) a new controller dropped onto my mat, now to me that is a level of service that can not be bettered! 10/10 for Rother Valley Optics and yet another reason why they will always get my custom.
