  1. As a deeply religious person I do not agree with this scientific nonsense of their being nothing and then all of a sudden there was a big bang and the universe was created from the void ....

Gospel dictates that there was nothing and then God said "let it be" and all of a sudden the universe was created from the void..

    Er ! .... hold on a moment ?

  2. I would personally go down the bigger battery option rather than use batteries in parallel.

The only exceptions to this would be if you needed to maintain power at all times ( you could change one out without losing power) or if there was a physical space constraint.

Using batteries in parallel can be fraught with difficulties.

  3. Cheapo drinks cooler from ebay, basically a Peltier with heatsink & fan in a case running from USB.

The plate is the size of the base of a drinks can.

Intention is to use it to...… well you know what I am aiming to do 🤪

Had it running for 5 mins in shed with glass thermometer precariously balanced on it, dropped from 20c down to 8c already, impressed.

  4. I don't believe this particular reflector can achieve direct focus with a DSLR ( not enough inward travel on the focuser ), you would need to either fit a low profile focuser or move the primary mirror ( not easy to do ).

Alternatively some barlows may work by moving the focal point further out, which I believe you have found works.

That's surprising you had to wait so long as the steppers in the mount are standard NEMA brand and these are commonly available from loads of sources

The problem with the HEQ5 is that the shaft is reduced at the end from about 4mm down to 3mm to accept cog...so unfortunately not standard.... trust me I looked everywhere that I could find

  7. I had the same issue trying to get a motor for my HEQ5, eventually found one after much searching, otherwise it was about 3 months delivery.

Did you ask https://grovers.biz/optics/spares-parts/6545-sky-watcher-motherboard-dobsonian-sky-liner-synscan.html for a lead time.

Also might be worth asking these guys https://tavcso.hu/en/productgroup/szerviz_motherboards doesn't show your particular board but doesn't cost anything to drop them an email.

Expect this has been asked before, but what options are best to get reliable links over 3m between scope and warm room? I have a working system (just) using powered usb hub and direct usb3 cables, but is pushing the boundaries as technically links are over 3m. Have tried various "active" usb3 cables but with limited success. However issue might be me not paying enough for the cables which range in price from £10 to over £60! Should I invest and any suggestions, or have you tried usb3 to ethernet converters?

I would start by trying to break down the problem.

Do you actually need USB3 would the devices not run happily on USB2 most will ?

Do you have a laptop or PC, could this be moved into the observatory room ( assuming you have one and scope is not outside ) and the Keyboard, Mouse , screen be extended backwards into the warm room.

  9. Yes you can get an adapter for the Nikon with a 1.25" or 2" extension to replace the eyepiece and diagonal.

You may need an extension tube the same size to get focus ( other celestron users may advise better on that )

    Example below

You may be able to get one that screws directly onto the back ( I am not that familiar with the Celestron model ).
