  1. I bought the telescope some time ago but didn't use it. Found it had 'pinched optics', and after some research apparently the 'cure' was to remove the 6 retaining screws around the front cell: these are not the 6 sealed screws. Apparently they are only used for transport.

Did this but still get a significant single 'star spike'

so, anyone aware of persons that may be able to fix this?

    Thank you.

  2. Hi, thank you for your advice.

As suggested I've emailed Bresser.de - we'll see what happens. I have a sneaky suspicion that it will cost more to fix than it cost. I have no problems whatsoever with my other 3 scopes. I suspect this may have been a 'Friday afternoon job' - the reflections were really terrible. I don't think the image is as good as it should be either. Thank you again. Perhaps a quick smack with a 7lb sledge hammer would do the trick 😬?

  3. I purchased an Explore Scientific 102 triplet about a year ago but didn't use it for one reason and another until late October. It had massive internal reflection problems which took some time to sort out but I fixed it by using sticky back velvet stuck onto black paper and rolled up and inserted into various parts of the scope including the lens hood - completely fixed. However it also had 'pinched optics'. As informed, I loosened the appropriate screws (not those which held the optics) which was supposed to fix the problem. It did except for the single star 'spike' (to the right in photo) quite obvious in many photos. Any ideas to take this further? To get it fixed will probably cost more than the scope is worth.

    Thank you.

  4. I don't know if this is related but I purchased the Plus. It occasionally connected to the Wi-Fi and appeared fine, but tried again and it did not connect the camera. Touched the camera icon and the Wi-Fi fell out. This happened time and time again even though I tried changing every cable including the one to the camera which was USB 3, and even tried USB 2 cable--still had the same problem. The ASI Plus was returned for checking. In the meantime my ASI Pro was working fine and has done since I had it; this was fitted with a USB 2 cable between my cameras (294s) and the Pro. These were connected to the USB 3 Port of the pro. Tried the USB 3 cable, the Pro showed the Wi-Fi was fine but it was not picked up by the app. Tried unplugging cables, etc, and no difference. Replaced with the USB 2 cable to the usb 3 port of the Pro and all work fine again. Curious.

  5. Not fixed. Worked for a period testing on and off, leaving it on for periods and off for periods. Did this as a bench test. Put it back on a scope and it was back to its 'normal' self . Opens, excellent wifi, no camera, touch the camera icon and it loses wifi.

Put the Pro back on - no problem. The Plus is definitely going back.

Searching the internet I notice that some others with the Plus have had somewhat similar problems.

  6. Hi

Think I've fixed it. I have lots of ASI USB cables; they were all USB 2 and work fine with the 294 camera on the ASI Pro.

Did some reading and USB 3 was mentioned. Dug into my box of cables and found the USB 3 for the 294 camera on the Plus (should have another set as I have 2 cameras). Hey Presto! Seems fine now. I've been trialing it all afternoon and so far so good on both tablets. It also transfers material to the tablets much faster. No more 'crashing' - as yet

    Thank you

  7. Just received my ASI air Plus but there seems to be a problem.

The ASI app boots up and opens nicely on my android tablets (2) and shows a strong Wi-Fi signal on both the tablet and the Plus app. On the opening page it also shows the 2 cameras, guide and main - sometimes. However on pressing "enter" the icon shows the main camera not connected, and a little while later, literally within a minute, it loses the Wi-Fi signal (I'm standing next to the Plus). If I try to connect the camera it usually loses wifi. There is no way I can re-connect it from the app. Checking the tablets the Wi-Fi signal to the Plus is very strong. This has happened time after time-I've spent hours trying different things with the 2 tablets I use: I have also changed the cables and swapping cameras (I have 2 ZWO cameras) and virtually anything one can imagine including checking the power sources (2x Celestron Lipos checked for output). I should add that I also have an ASI air Pro, and this runs perfectly irrespective to what I've swapped around and power sources. My belief is that it is a power problem with the Plus

It is being sent back to be checked. I really can't think of anything else to try.

Any ideas before it is returned?

  8. Thank you all for your replies and help. Sorry for the delay in replying but I've been away.

Watched some tutorials and got the digital copy of 'mastering PI'; I will have to continue working at it.

My problem is that I am very used to Photoshop and I am sure that this makes it more difficult especially if one is getting past ones 'sell-by date' in age. Never mind, we shall overcome🤨!

    Thank you all once again

  9.

    I'm using ASIair Pro.

    1. How accurate should PA be? For example once 'smiley' shows is that good enough?

    2. Once polar aligned I then go to my target. ASI does one plate solve, moves, then plate solves again and the target is centred. A video where the tutor moves the scope by the arrows on the software AFTER PA away from Polaris, plate solves then 'sync mount', then simply moves to the required target. Is this better practice?

  10. Hi

Has anyone got any thoughts on the stacking in ASIStudio?

I've just switched from a DSLR to a ZWO camera and have been used to DSLR raw files. I've found that using FITS files from the camera give better images in the ASI software than DSS; it is also very fast.

    Cheers
