That is a great journey Gaz! The current one is excellent. I feel I have done a similar journey since I started back in 2015. This steady progress is of course a major factor in what makes this hobby so rewarding. Still, even if I think that my first images now look quite pathetic, I seem to remember that I was quite pleased with them at the time, actually quite excited, which is probably what kept me going.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean.... I think this is why It's good to look back, as many Orion was and is one of my favourite nebulas to image, and I'm sure my latest won't be the last time I image it

A lovely set of images. I recognise the journey. The delight at the very first image, then the ambition to improve leading to progressively more interesting (I won't say better!) images.
Mirrors my own journey to an extent, except I have never achieved the heights of your latest version!
Astonishing image!
Wow, thank you for your kind words

Great set of images, I love the dusty renditions that are presented these days, they are almost unrecognisable as M42!
I have all of the necessary equipment however I’m about at the point of your last image, but I’ll keep trying.
that's all we can do, keep trying and never give up

Orion was the first Astro image I ever did 13 years ago, below you can see my journey over the past 13 years I have posted the most recent image first to hopefully hook you in then it progresses from the first image I ever took.
I've had lots of help along the way from my good friends Ray Leeson & Matt Foyle along the way 2 amazing blokes.
latest image was taken with a QHY294m and William Optics Super Apo 80 mm f/480 mm comboolder images have various Nikon cameras and QHY9m along with Celstron Nexstar 4SE & Orion Optics VX6
Thank you for popping in for a look

No, I did it at the correct time and in the correct image and it worked perfectly just left about 4 of the bigger stars behind…whereas yours has removed every one…
If you send a high-res version of yours to me, I'd be more than happy to run it through mine to see if it removes them for you? If so, please let me know and ill dm you my email address

Well you have certainly nailed that! Good data very nicely processed. I like your colour management leaving in some green. Proper Hubble palate.
Thanks, Martin, yes I've never understood taking all the green out, I believe it complements the image and gives it a tad more depth

You're welcome. I think starless versions often give a greater sense of depth which the starfield can often hide. Possibly something to do with how we perceive depth, we expect objects to blur with distance which doesn't happen with point sources.
Hi Olly, totally agree mate, I'm even toying with the idea of shooting the stars in RGB then adding them back in but might try that on the next image rather than a re visit on this one

nice job

Very nice, think the starless image works particularly well here.
Yeah, I do love starless on images with lots of nebula, thank you for your kind words

Hmmm, same settings I used…🤔🤔
thanks 👍🏻
I'm assuming your images had been stretched at this point?

ha that would actually not be a bad shout I guess at some point. I'm actually "testing" my kit on this very target at the moment as I'm waiting on my permanent setup. I only just got the mono camera and filters so I'm kidding myself I'm just playing at the minute and none of it matters if I mess up 🙂 🙂
this was the first full image on this rig i had recently upgraded from the QHY9m, give me a shout if you get stuck with anything

Beautiful rendition of this target, i have done this recently too, and just started with PI, can I ask what you used to remove the stars, as I used starnet 2, but found it left a few larger ones behind
cheers
Hi Mate thanks for the kind words I also used StarNet 2 I've attached a screenshot of settings, hope it works out for you
