  1. New link, should automatically translate to English just by clicking on the link on all platforms, I hope.

    https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=https://www.telescopi-artesky.it/it/ioptron/montature-equatoriali/4788-montatura-cem70g-ioptron-8055517134832.html&prev=search

Yes it does work, just tested on my mobile phone, will automatically go straight to website in English, takes a few seconds to load, hopefully this will be of use to those seeking an insight following this new addition of mount

I think the main thing is they claiming PE of +/- 3.5 arctic and a 31Kg payload - but my Itallian is poor - for around 3K cost

Sorry, so I’ve just checked and you don’t get the “Translate to English” option on a mobile phone platform but it does work on the laptop or iPad.

yes you are correct, it is stating a PE of +/- 3.5 arsec and is coming in at just shy of 3000 euros which currently equates to about

    £2650 gbp

it's just that for operations which have to be repeated each time the rig is set up it would be less fidly and more convenient if they could be tightened by hand.

Sorry, I misread the context, yes I can see how that would be a pain each time.

I don't think so as the washers are the same diameter as the head. I think their purpose must be to allow some slippage so that the mount can be adjusted for Az against the pin.

Yes, you are quite right, they look like nylon/plastic washers? As you say, to allow necessary adjustment for polar aligning the mount

    • Fiddly washers beneath the mounting bolts which are easy to lose. A touch of grease might help them to be retained by the bolt.

    • Having to use the Allen key on the Lat Locking Screws

Great initial write up Ian, there always seems to be some flaw in design that could be made better, in any mechanics.

A suggestion for fiddly washers, would flanged bolts be ideal?

A suggestion for the lat locking screws, would screws that have a deeper head to incorporate incremental holes, on the grippy bit where a metal rod/pin can be inserted to tighten them up, help?

Just a couple of ideas, that’s all. Obviously you will know best having it right in front of you.

  5. I’ve conversed via email with Ian at Flo and like you said James, unless they have concrete information, they don’t want to lead anyone up the garden path. Hopefully the coming few days next week might shed more info. I’ve seen it available for pre-order on an Italian website and there’s a page in the making on a Canadian website so lots of indications to say some news is nearby

I wonder if FLO has any info on this mount at all? 🤔

I had an order on the go with Flo for the Cem60, tri-pier and various accessories, by chance I found out about the Cem70 on the horizon. I did question Flo about this and they confirmed there is a Cem70 & Cem70g in the pipeline. It gave me a headache for a couple of days finding this info. Eventually I pulled the plug on the complete order. My main reason being that I didn’t want to buy a mount that had been out 6+ years, a mount that would have to see me going for at least 6 years or more, albeit a very good mount which I made the decision on after extensive conversations with Flo. My gripe was that I preferred USB3 ports for quicker transfer rates of the zwo pro cameras which the Cem60 does not have. I questioned iOptron last week as to whether there would be a USB3 module upgrade available or even on the cards for the future. The response was quick but brief saying that there is no Usb3 upgrade module or any plans for one. Then to hear of a Cem70g coming soon, I had to cancel the order as this was exactly what I need. Usb3 is the current future and what’s the point of having a cable management system that would in affect be rendered useless because the camera would still have its usb3 cable traipsing to the laptop. And no, I didn’t want to retrofit anything to the Cem60. So in the end it made sense (to me anyway) to now sit it out, wait for the product to appear and go for it. I would no doubt still need the tri-pier but from what I can tell so far, the 70g comes with iPolar, guide camera and WiFi which are all very interesting features to have built in, in a mount. As to what can be controlled via WiFi, i.e. just the mount goto functions or guiding, polar alignment and imaging too would make for interesting findings. By the way, Flo had no additional info as of a couple of days ago.

If that specimen in the video is a final retail version, it seems they have not covered up the exposed wires?

Yes, I would have expected some kind of loose sleeving in the least

For my sins I have one incoming, courtesy FLO, hopefully next week . Now I'm not in the habit of being an early adopter, it's not in my psyche, but given the self-imposed isolation I thought it would give me something to get my teeth into, even though we are heading towards the less favourable time of year for imaging. I needed an EQ mount that would take a 10kg load for imaging, but was light enough for my aging frame to carry from it's storage in the house and set up each time in the garden. I wasn't so keen on the CEM40 because of its geometry, as I am pretty much limited to southerly views.

Don't expect a detailed critique though, as this is my first EQ mount and I've a lot to learn, having spent all my time so far imaging with an Alt-Az mount (ha-ha, Olly should be pleased to have another convert to what he would probably call a "proper" mount :wink2:).

    Wish me luck. Ian

Looking forward to your initial comments Ian, I am in the market for a new mount and am undecided between the Cem40 & Gem40, have had some discussions with Ian @FLO which has led me to these 2 items
