say, why do you convert the raw files to monochrome?
-
huh? my comp is developing a personality...
now suddenly pipp finds them
lol...
that's how I feel while on nights too...
hahaha

Just downloaded the new PIPP version. It does support raw files? How come I can't see my cr2 files? I thought they were raw format???
Confusing.
So I have to convert all pictures into tif first, I guess.

Have you bought the LP clip filter?Depends what mods you want to do I think. Removing the IR filter and replacing it with a clear filter is quite common and a few people have done that themselves though it does involve taking the camera apart. I've done nothing to mine however. It's absolutely stock.

Forgot about this thread. Just stacked 50 raw files of the moon in PS5 by hand...
-
Ok - my SNR is about 25-30 on 0.5s exposures with a QHY5 on a 9x50 finder scope.
-
What is a good SNR in PHD?

No worries - found out the problem...

Say, when using APT and saving the pics only onto the SD card - are they saved as jpg or raw when you ticked to save as raw?
What I mean is, I just looked at files on my SD card and despite having ticked raw and jpg it saved 2 jpg's onto my SD card?????

what! I've got an ipad as well. I've only just got started with the laptop and now there's another option!
Unfortunately, it costs 100odd quid...

EQMOD is absolutely amazing. I too had my doubts initially but being now fully set up, I can't believe that I liked my handset so much.
A wifi gamepad has greatly improved my mount experience by the by. I think, pretty much, any will do. I didn't spend more than 15£ or so.
CdC was difficult to setup somehow. I went the Stellarium scope, stellarium, synscan in "pc direct mode" route.
Works fine.

Thanks for the info!! I need to look into "how to mod a DSLR". Is it difficult?

Great thread! Am now officially bent on buying a Canon DSLR body...
What cables do I need?
-
Thanks! Great guide!!!

First setup is super important.
Level the mount. Use polar finder to visually PA. use alignmaster to visually drift align. Pop in your camera and repeat it on screen. Then go for guiding.

Great!
I'm loving it.
Not so alone anymore with my hobby and always someone there, listening to your inane astro troubles.
Brilliant.

Have played with PHD yesterday night. Finally foxed out some settings. I've successfully used ASCOM pulse guide settings and am now calibrating how ever long I want to. Nice to be in control.
I'm now aiming at 15 to 20 steps. My RMS was between 0.12 to 0.32 - nice and smooth graph.
The ST4 settings though fail on me. I've tried all 0.25 to 1.0 settings but none achieve enough movement, so the calibration fails. Confusing, but doesn't really matter. This actually means that I can get rid of my ST4 cable, isn't it?
