I'm not sure if this counts but I did an analemma from my back garden but it took me years to complete due to cloudy weather. You have to be absolutely on the second accurate and if the Sun doesn't shine you have to wait for another year, it takes ages! I took this over a period of mainly 2016 and then 2017,18 and 19 to fill the gaps. I used the location of my image as the backdrop, I didn't know I could go elsewhere to super-impose it. The image is therefore the genuine view.
here are the links, they were all taken at 11:00 GMT

Thanks, that works.
That makes no sense? I check all programs as run as administrator as default. For Firecapture if you don't, none of the settings are saved, Autostakkert also won't run unless run as administrator. So for this program it won't work if you are running as administrator. I'm lost.
But, thanks a million, it works!!

I was wondering if anyone could help me solve this. I have used Deep Sky stacker for many years with no problems. Recently my computer died after a Dell Bios update. Dell replaced the motherboard and Itel graphics card but as a result everything was wiped clean. I have reinstalled all my programs so far but Deep Sky Stacker refuses to work.
I installed the latest version 4.2.6. Set as run as administrator. The program opens fine, I load all my images in, check all, register checked images. When I press go the program immediately closes.
I checked my Bitdefender and the permissions are set to allow it to run. I have reinstalled a couple of times and it still instantly shuts down when you press go.
Have I missed something, I don't know where to go from here.
Many thanks for your help

Fabulous Ken, thanks for the link! I need a good read of this to see whether I would be intelligent enough to do this. I'm not very good at making things (failed completely with the PST mod)

The tighter your bandwidth in the K line the more the filaments will stand out in CaK. If you look at spectroheliograph images in CaK, the filaments stand out as distinct black lines similar to Halpha. They are lines of neutral magnetic field. We can usually never see them as the Lunt and Coronado CaK are not narrow enough. You are obviously getting (but not quite) towards the optimum narrow bandwidth. You should build a spectroheliograph

You managed 12 captures in 2 minutes, most of us would miss this in just one stack!! that is phenomenal!! and has really made me think what we are missing to achieve a good single image.
Well done, this is probably the best thing I have ever seen in all my years in solar astronomy.

Apollo, you have the best CaK animations in the world It is great to see everyone's best ever, together. They don't come about every year but these are my best two
Can't post BB code or html doesn't work. What has changed?

BB code used to work and was so simple. I have tried every link from Flickr possible and nothing works anymore. Pity.
How Rusted? please do share

First, well done on the Solarcan, it is always so exciting to break it open and see the paper with lines on.
Second, don't angle the next one keep it straight. This is a camera obscura https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camera_obscura
Therefore, the image is produced upside down. So to raise the height of your solar tracks you need to maintain the can in a straight position but you must move the pin hole upwards.
I tried this this year and managed to get more tracks but still not high enough. I made my hole exactly half way between the middle and the top. I tried to get it higher but couldn't get the pin through, I think maybe I hit a fixture inside. I need to try again and get higher. Try to understand the wiki post and you will understand what I mean. I also got the star reflections with mine using the middle provided pin hole so I think it is something to with the set up. I didn't get it this year with my own pinhole.

Hi Richard, if you click on the link above you will see what I bought
all the information is at the bottom of the page. It is Ilford's photographic paper

My Solarcan finished on the 21st December and on Christmas day I cut it open. It was a little wet inside with 1ml of water but I think that was from all the storms we had in summer. I had to let the paper dry in a drawer for half an hour and then it scanned in OK.
I am much happier with the position of the pin hole this year. Last year I used the standard in the middle, this year I added one half way between middle and the top (3/4 upwards) and this worked a lot better. I still think I could raise the hole higher.

By the way, you only need to expose for 6 months, everything else thereafter is just overwriting previous exposures tracks. There is nothing to be gained for leaving it for 8 and half years, unless of course you live in the most cloudy part of the world in existence

I buy all mine from FLO Luke My next one is due off on Christmas eve. Like the above image all the summer trails are knocked off, so this year I experimented by not using the hole that comes with the can and I have placed another half way up the can to see if I get more of the summer trails. We shall see.......
This was last years attempt which I was pleased with but disappointed with at the same time. I would be disappointed after 2 and half years too!

Luke, the reason for not seeing the proms in the single stack and seeing them in the double stack is because the dynamic range changes. The eyeball in single stack can see the proms more easily but the dynamic range is large and therefore bad for the camera. In double stack the whole image is darker but more even and therefore the dynamic range is closer together so the camera can see the surface and the proms together.
The Chameleon is excellent for the PST (better pixel size for resolution) but the Newton's rings are horrible! I'm getting there with the help of software for pattern suppression However the DMK41 still has better dynamic range even if the resolution is worse (and no NRs).

I have a recent comparison but I was still getting used to the PGR Chameleon and the Sun wasn't that brilliant either so the images are a bit dull. This is with the PST.
