  1. Thanks for everybody's replies. After reading through I think I may have avoided an impulsive decision.

It seems asi air does support alt az,  just not for the az gti. I could use the alt az in synscan and asiair for the camera, but I do like the accuracy of the asi air goto and would prefer only to use one app, again the asi air does this perfectly. @Elp the polar alignment takes me about 10-15 minutes to do, maybe I'm just feeling a bit impatient after learning I could cut this out with the s50! I do like the idea of being able to upgrade, add, swap things around with my current set up. Obviously this is something I wouldn't be able to do this with the s50.

Thanks again for helping me decide.

  2. I'll start off by saying I'm currently doing e.a.a using the following set up

    Skywatcher st80

    Skywatcher azgti

    Skywatcher wedge

    Asi585mc

    Asiair plus

I found this a highly portable rig until I stumbled across the seestar s50. The images it produces are on par with what I can see with my setup.

The part I like best is no polar aligning necessary. It seems to take me forever to tune in using the wedge and asiair app. I don't normally get alot of time outside due to clouds or commitments so time is an important factor for me.

I'd like to hear anyone's opinions on this as if there isn't much difference between them I'm considering getting a seestar and sell my current rig.

    Thanks.

Hello and welcome to SGL 👍

I can relate to eye strain at the eyepiece, I am 100% visual and also wear glasses and did two things to sort the problem out.

    1. Buy eyepieces with long eye relief - I find 20mm best.

    2. Buy a pair of binoviewers, these combined with the long eye relief eyepieces make for very relaxed  viewing whilst still wearing your glasses.

    Hope that helps 🙂

    Thanks for the welcome dweller25.

I did try upgrading to a bit eyepiece having a longer eye relief but I liked to squish my eye right into the eyepiece for a more immersive view, maybe that didn't help!

The e.a.a is a more efficient way I find, it's never long before the clouds roll in and end the session abruptly!

    Hi

    Hi,

I have a kind of love/hate relationship with astronomy, in winter I love it and in summer less so, or any time it's cloudy!

I started off doing visual and had great fun learning the constellations and how to star hop, but I can't seem to wear my glasses at the eyepiece and the eye strain started giving me headaches. Rather than give up I looked into e.a.a and this is a path I'm currently learning.
