  1. Thanks everyone. My concern was whether I could estimate the centre of the view through the scope well enough for aligning with finders.
  2. Hello For aligning a finder scope & RDF on a Dobsonian, do I need a reticle / crosshair eyepiece? Thanks
  3. Hello The FOV in a 32mm 50 degree eyepiece is practically identical to that in a 24mm 68 degree. Would I be right that, for DSOs, the 32mm would be the better choice, because the item in view would be brighter, or is it not that simple?
  4. Thanks, Michael. That’s very helpful.
  5. Hello Newbie, using a Skywatcher 1200 f8 dob, moderate light pollution. for planetary / detailed lunar viewing, plus any other times when it might be useful, I have a choice between a Baader Hyperion 5mm, 68 degrees, and a ES 6.7mm 82 degrees. ignoring price, any recommendations would be welcome. thanks
  6. Thank you, Chandra. That is vey clear.
  7. Thanks, Matthew. That’s very helpful.
  8. Hello i have a skywatcher 6” f8 dob. The most powerful eyepiece is an 8mm TV Radian. i had thought that a 6mm or 6.5mm EP would be a useful addition for planetary viewing, but am concerned that this would give an exit pupil of less than 1. Any advice on this? Also- would the drift across the view be a major problem at these higher magnifications? Presumably, an EP with a wide FOV would fix this? Thanks!
  9. Hello Choosing an upgrade to the finder that came with a Skyeatcher 6" Dob. I'm leaning towards a RACI finder. I see that some have illuminated cross-hairs. Is that worth having? Thanks.
  10. Please see my post, ‘the nightmare continues’ , immediately before yours on this forum. We seem to have similar problems!
  11. Could anyone with this scope tell me if the thread diameter of the collar which holds extension tubes in place is +/- 60mm, as on the attached photos?
  12. … it now seems that only a genuine Skywatcher tube will work. The one I have is about 0.5mm too large…
  13. Many thanks. Photos attached. 3rd picture shows scope details (and 1.25 eyepiece in place). i bought the scope 2nd hand, and it did not come with a 2”ext tube. Photos 1 and 2 show what happens if I try to use the newly-bought ext tube recommended by FLO. The first picture shows the large gap I get if in only partly-insert the tube (post it note applied to help with visibility for the photo). The second picture shows the ext tube being marginally too wide to fit inside the knurled collar. as mentioned, if I remove that collar, the tube fits fine, but as far as I can see that leaves me with no way of locking the tube into place within the focuser.
  14. Hello 150mm Skywatcher dob. The only way I can get a 2” extension tube to fit in the focuser is by removing the gnarled ring which holds the two fixing screws, but if I do that, obviously, I have no way of locking the tube, and therefore my shiny new 2”eyepiece, in place. am I failing to understand something here??? thanks!
  15. Thanks, everyone. Iam posting a follow-up question about 2” extension tubes…
  16. Hello NGC I hae the supplied 10 and 20mm eyepieces, but don't mind replacing them with better versions at the same size, if appropriate.
  17. Hello could anyone recommend an eyepiece for DSO’s, for a skywatcher 6” Dob? I am in an area with moderate light pollution. Long eye relief would be welcome. Price range about £100. Thanks! Francis
