  1. Many thanks for the responses. I do try to get a guide star further away from the zenith than the imaging target rather than the other way round. Not sure if that makes a difference but I do remember things getting much more hectic on a playground roundabout as you got further from the axis. My logic would be that guiding on a star that is 'moving' faster than the imaging target would provide the best results. Or maybe, I'm completely wrong....
  2. I have a 30mm F4 guidescope that is attached to my Star Adventurer L bracket. I know ideally I should point near the imaging target but given the limitations of my fixing that's not always possible. For example if I'm imaging in a southerly direction. My question is: does it matter where I point it? Thanks in advance. EDIT: I should say, this is for auto guiding purposes.
  3. Afternoon Looking for ideas on how to attach a power bank and Pi to the tripod. I don't want to add weight to the scope/guider as I'm pretty much at the limit (SW SA2i - 70ED + Canon 600D / 120mm + Sv305Pro). Has anyone found (or made) something that works for this? Thanks in advance. EDIT: Guide scope 30mm. 120mm FL.
  4. If the OP used the SA Console and snap cable to run a session, the settings in the app will overwrite the default settings and the unit will stop tracking when the sequence ends. Weird but that's the way it works. Possible explanation for the trails even if PA was good.
  5. Thanks for the welcome. Yes, I go back to the UK for a lie down.
  6. Many thanks for the link. Would you say an upgrade from Affinity v1 to Affinity v2 is worthwhile? I don't use it for anything other than Astro at this point.
  7. Hi everyone New to the forum and somewhat of a beginner to Astrophotography. I'm lucky enough to have a base in Spain as well as the UK, so the dark winter nights can be much warmer. Started out observing through a Meade ETX -80 and in November 2021 when in Spain with a friend we decided to make a mount for a camera to sit on top of the scope, just to see whether we could take a picture. Zip ties and T adaptor did the job. Canon 600D and 50mm lens on Orion that trip. We were pretty pleased with the results. And so it began... Now using a SW SA2i tracker with a variety of lens from 14mm Samyang to a 420mm SvBony scope and the old 600D and a modded 500D camera. Trying to keep the set-up portable as much as possible. Still learning a lot and although data capture is becoming easier, the post-processing element of the projects is the really steep learning curve for me. Currently using a combination of Siril and Affinity v1. Will probably look at auto-guiding in the fairly near future as limited to 60 sec subs on the 420mm at the moment. Looking forward to getting to know people on the forum and I know I'll gain plenty of knowledge as I go. Regards Jonathan
