  1. Thanks to all for your advice. I think I'll look to purchase a sturdy tripod and Macgyver it if necessary to fit. I do like the idea of wooden legs so I'll look into this one also! Tbh, I didn't want to sink too much money into my first ever scope incase I didn't enjoy the hobby but I think that horse has long since bolted. Getting out with the scope is all I think about during the day 🤩 Really happy to have joined this forum and learning more about the different types of scope and tips and tricks on how to get the best out of them. Appreciate everyone! 🔭
  2. Hi all! I recently purchased my first ever telescope, a Skywatcher Explorer 130m (bought second hand for £80 and although the motor doesn't work, I've been using it manually) and I've been having so much fun with it. But I've been storing it in my garage and with the cold snap we've been experiencing lately, I don't know if it's weakened the plastic parts of the tripod or what, but 2 of the legs of the tripod snapped clean off while I was using the scope last night! I've found a website online that sells the legs separately (2 for £70), which is of course an option, or the other option I can see is to find another tripod thats compatible with my scope and potentially upgrade. The thing is, I can't quite work out if the tripods are a generic piece of equipment that will work with any scope, or if I need to look into the actual Skywatcher range specifically. I guess my question is, does anyone else have this particular scope and has any experience upgrading their tripod? Thanks all. Take care.
