  1. I have a Celestron Starpointer Pro Finderscope and I am pleased with it, but changing the battery is a faff, you go out and the battery is flat or flattens during observations then you have to remove the finderscope, remove the cap at bottom, replace battery, then try to replace the cap without crossthreading it, remount the finderscope and may have to realign it again. All in the dark of course. I came up with an idea 💡. and gathered the parts. Picture 1 The finderscope, a CR2032 Button Coin Battery Holder with ON / OFF switch 99p £3.48 with postage and a Velcro self adhesive pad. Picture 2 Removing the cap and battery you will see the brass centre bush I drilled this just a little larger than the existing hole, enough for the cables to pass through without being too tight. (Drill it with care a bit at a time if you try to do it in one go the brass heats up quickly and could melt the plastic and become loose) Picture 3 Solder the leads to the battery contacts in the finderscope Neg - is centre and Pos + is outer ring. Replace the cap holding the leads so they don't twist up. Insert Battery and test, you can still adjust brightness and once you have the brightness you want you can leave it as you can switch off the finderscope with the switch on battery holder. Picture 4 Remount the finderscope resize one side of Velcro to fit the back of battery holder, then fit the other side of Velcro where you want and the leads reach, mine is just forward of the finderscope. Now when the battery goes flat just lift the holder from Velcro pop in new battery and put holder back on Velcro and the switch makes the finder scope easy to switch off and when you switch on the brightness is already set. Warning this probably kills your warranty if you have any left !!
  2. Additional Question! Are these wing bolts to lock the position or to apply friction to stop the ascension and the declination’s rotation moving to freely
  3. The 127EQ came with a 4mm lens and after reading more articles I purchased a 15mm & 26mm Super Plossl lenses, I will see how I go with them and maybe add the 32mm later, Thanks for the help.
  4. We have had a clear spell early this morning and I tried with and without glasses and for me it's NO Glasses but thanks for all the help and explanations. Cheers.
  5. Has anyone replaced or modified the tension screw's (Not sure of proper name) on the Celestron Powerseeker 127 EQ. These tighten on equatorial shafts to steady/tighten the movement but to me they are not so good 1. they are painted so bind on threads 2. they are hard to tighten enough with fingers and the tip is sharp and will damage the shaft. I am thinking swap for an Allen Bolt (not painted) easy to tighten, smooth the tip and insert a nylon ball bearing or plug so the bolt will not wear on shaft. Has anyone else done a modification?
  6. Hello all, I have just joined having had a telescope as an Xmas gift, It’s a Celestron Powerseeker 127 EQ. Some may have seen my question here about a new eyepiece (15mm Plossl). reading more and learning more I have more questions. Eye Relief?? I have read that this effects glasses wearers. I wear glasses for distance and reading glasses, when I use binoculars, monoculars, magnifiers or cameras I remove my glasses! Do people keep their glasses on? Should I be keeping glasses on? If so distance or reading glasses? I would think I would remove glasses and rely on telescope optics.
  7. Hello all, I have just joined having had a telescope as an Xmas gift, It’s a Celestron Powerseeker 127 EQ. I came across ‘How to Improve Entry-Level Telescopes’ On You Tube On there they recommended a 15mm Plossl eyepiece and I have had a quick scan on internet and found many different manufacturers around the £30 mark. My question is are there manufacturers to avoid and which can be recommended? Found these. Svbony SV131 1.25in Plossl 17mm, 48°Wide lens (i860) £22 ebay used, SV207 1.25" Super Plossl 15mm 50° Eyepiece £33 new and Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl Eyepieces 15mm £34. What's the difference in Plossl and Super Possl?
