Well thought I'd type out my ramblings here to save on wasting peoples time on the forum reading my waffling posts - at least here you choose to click on my blog and read it so I cannot be blamed for boring anyone.
I am very new to astronomy - something I have wanted to get into for a very very long time but put it off as I know what I am like and it would become all consuming and my marriage for a start might not have coped - until now - I have twin girls coming up to 2 years old and I think my husband realises that this is a good switch off for me so game on.................
I have started on a basic astronomy course at my local Observatory and loving it - its only for 8 weeks but I cannot wait for each Friday to come. We have covered inner and outer space and have just been like a big kid. I am 40 this year but feel 14 :D
I am having to save cash for a 'scope and don't want to jump in and buy just anything so I am saving and reading everything I can to learn what is out there but its mindblowing isn't it! I am buying some binos this month so they will have to keep me happy until I make the big purchase.
I hope my wafflings won't bore you all and they will be very basic wafflings but I guess I may seem more interesting the more I learn.

Tonight on my Observatory course it is our third lecture - "Covering the Night Sky" and I have been wishing away the hours. although the cloud here is awful and there will be no chance of getting any scopes out I just don't care as I will be learning and be around other people that have the same interest and excitment as I do for the subject.
I bought "Turn Left at Orion" for a fiver off someone at work - her husbands and have been reading that a lot, also trying to get my head round stellarium and for whatever reason havig problems with it but hoping they cover it a little tonight and it will make more sense. If they dont I am going to ask the staff after.
One more week till pay day then I can order my binos - looking forward to that.

As I am off work today I have spent the day trying to decide what scope to go for - inbetween looking after my 1 year old twins that is.
I keep reading other posts on the forum when people ask for info on what one to go for, I keep look at what others have in their signatures when I look at the photographs they have taken, I keep studying the makers websites, keep reading in the magazine etc etc but it still doesn't make any sense!
Once I think yes that is the scope I will go for I start looking at mounts and eye peices - just the basic stuff needed and bang my budget is blown! All typical I suspect but I just don't want to buy something that I will
have to upgrade in a year, saying that though I still do not forsee have 1k+ in a year to spend on new equipment!
Budget is tops £500 now for everything - not much I know but a huge repair in the house has taken out my budget very recently so my thoughts of doing astrophotography are blown now!
