This or that?

As I am off work today I have spent the day trying to decide what scope to go for - inbetween looking after my 1 year old twins that is.

I keep reading other posts on the forum when people ask for info on what one to go for, I keep look at what others have in their signatures when I look at the photographs they have taken, I keep studying the makers websites, keep reading in the magazine etc etc but it still doesn't make any sense!

Once I think yes that is the scope I will go for I start looking at mounts and eye peices - just the basic stuff needed and bang my budget is blown! All typical I suspect but I just don't want to buy something that I will

have to upgrade in a year, saying that though I still do not forsee have 1k+ in a year to spend on new equipment!

Budget is tops £500 now for everything - not much I know but a huge repair in the house has taken out my budget very recently so my thoughts of doing astrophotography are blown now!

Buying a telescope can be tricky. I guess it depends what sort of experience you are looking for. Are you more interested in deep sky objects or small details in the planets? Is astro-photography anywhere in your future?

and yes,.. unfortunately, price is always a factor. :(

Astro photography is def in the future and it is the planets and small features of them where I am interested mostly in.

Oh man,.. astro photography means BIG BUCKS! LOL! Not to scare you off but I'm told that this is definitely addictive and the costs only go up. In that case, I would stay away from a Dobsonian like mine and seek help by posting a thread on "equipment help" or even "beginner's help and advice" since I am less familiar with the needs of astro-photographhy.

Good luck and may your skies remain clear!

Pat the course is great, sadly the weather has been pants but the lectures have been great. Loving every minute of it - the advance course starts in April and will be booking straight onto that.
