  1. Can anyone help? I have an Orion Starshoot solar system imager IV and used it for the second time tonight. The problem is I get a flickering image on the screen when I put it in my telescope. I thought I just needed to get Mars into focus, but as I looked at the black screen on the screen (I tried amcap and craterlet) an image of the planet appeared and the went black again. This flickered on and off for a minute or so before going black and staying that way. The red light on the back of the camera stayed on all the time. Do I have a faulty camera? Thanks in advance.

    Astronomy course at NLO

    NLO?
  3. Thanks for that feac. I didn't know you can control it from Stellarium. I use it regularly.
  4. Hi all. Does anyone know if I can control my Celestron Nexstar 127 with a PC or laptop instead of the handset? It has a socket that looks like a connection for a PC cable of some kind. I know that the equivalent skywatcher scopes can be controlled this way, so I assume mine can too. Thanks for your help guys.

    Jupiter Mak 127 - 13 Jan

    Excellent image.
  6. I got an Orion Starshoot webcam for christmas and got out to use it for the first time last night. Without playing with any of the images I took a shot at Jupiter and then used registax for the first time too. The finished picture isn't brilliant, but I am really pleased with it. If only there were more clear skies so that I can get out and practice some more!

    Clouds!!! Aaarrrghhhh!!

On my cycle home I saw the beautifully clear sky with Venus still above the horizon and Jupiter up high, so as soon as I got home I got my scope out and got Venus lined up nicely. Then I stood up to see white cloud rolling and in less than a minute Venus was gone and a minute later so was Jupiter! I am so hacked off! A night on the internet learning how to use my Orion webcam instead.

    Its time to give up

My next door neighbour has just fitted a security light which is messing up my viewing. Really annoying!

As soon as it's available for the wildfire I'll download it. Sounds ideal!

    Perseids 2011. Thoughts?

Last night at about 10.30pm I managed to see one perseid meteor. First time I've seen one so it was quite exciting. It was a lovely mild night too. The moon and part cloud did restrict my viewing area to just above the area of the sky they were coming from.

I'm the same. I've been re-reading my Sky at Night mags and Turn Left at Orion. Roll on dark night!

Was Gagarin really the first man in space?

There's a Buran sat in a scrap yard in Bahrain. The Russians took it there for a middle east aerospace show about the time of the end of communism and then didn't have the money to bring it back. It was left there. I know cos I've got the pictures of me in the cockpit in 2004. It's complete with instruments and all. Such a waste.
