timwetherell 977 Posted July 22, 2014 Nice looking setup! What's the internal diameter of that dome? I'm about to build one to accommodate a similar scope and wondered how the ergonomics are :) Link to comment
lardy 155 Posted July 23, 2014 Hi Tim,It's 98 inches in Dia ... The full dimensions are listed on the Sky shed pod site. As for ergonomics .. I spent a lot of time on my knees viewing Cygnus lol. The whole dome could do with being taller to accommodate a larger pier, it's a bit of a tight squeeze. Link to comment
timwetherell 977 Posted July 23, 2014 Yeah, mine will be very similar so guess I'll be on my knees too :) Guess that's the problem with long scopes like refractors. Do you have carpet on the floor? I'd like to have, but am a bit worried about dew and damp. Right now I'm on my knees on wet boards on the balcony we use for observing so the idea of an enclosed observatory with a carpet floor seems like the lap of luxury! Link to comment
lardy 155 Posted July 23, 2014 Hi Tim,No it's a Lino membrane, the pier is bolted directly to the concrete, a low deck onto which the Pod sits with a Lino membrane between the two, sealed on the inside of the Pod ... stops the moisture.Carpet might be a thought, kinder to the knees! or knee pads lol.
