Jupiter Martin

Wonderful early evening sky meant that I could get out proper for the first time since getting my scope.

My thoughts were in expectation of the Leonids Meteor shower expected to peak tonight.

My first Target was of course Jupiter who was showing even before sun set I spent a good couple of hours on this and was showing my sister and brother inlaw the site. I watched the eclipse of one of her moons and saw the best detail I have seen on jupiter could see the main banding quite clearly.

I then Just scooted around the sky not always knowing what I was looking at Saw a few clusters and looked at M42 well I think I did.

When Orion rose I studied the nebulae and clusters around the sword area some amazing sites. The cloud then came rolling in and was quick thick thought I would not see much more tonight. It was 10:30 now felt a little dissapointed as it would mean I would not see the leonids shower.

I decided to set the scope up in the bedroom as a gamble it points South East. Well I had a look out about 1am and the sky had cleared a bit so opened up the window and had a scoot around no luck on the shower. Found Mars and to be honest it was a bit disapointing but exciting at the same time it was so small in my scope even at high Mag. Just a Yellowy - Orange dot. But its one to mark of my list.

I decided to have a fag while leaning out the window approxamately 1:30 am and I saw one one of the Leonids Talk about kid in a sweet shop the excitement was tremendous. straight to the scope and scanning the skies needless to say that was the ony one I saw but it was a wonderful humbling experience what I saw throughout the night amazed me and made me want a much bigger scope 3 1/2 inches dosent satisfy me. Amazing Night all the same.
