These Lithium power packs are perfect for powering astro gear and much smaller and lighter than the lead-acid equivalents - ideal for grab and go setups!

Also much easier to charge and maintain compared to lead-acid batteries :)

A few things that makes these batteries worth thinking about.

They have a life expectancy of 1400+ charge/discharge cycles. Or 4 years, using every night.

OK realistically the battery will never reach 1400 cycles in several years of UK weather.

The inbuilt over charge/discharge protection circuits mean that it is impossible to wreck the batteries by these means.

Further, lithium maintains it's performance at low temperature much better than lead acid, or NiCd/NiMH.

The lithium self discharge (in storage) is better than lead acid, and streets ahead of NiCd/NiMH.

Lead acid are often built down to a low price and very 'delicate' about over charge and deep discharge.

Then the 'shop' chargers are sometimes unsuitable.

One 'forgot to charge for a week' or 'over discharge' mistake and the battery can be scrap.

Lead acid also exhibits a daily loss of capacity from the day it is manufactured. Regardless of use.

Lithium battery technology is now well enough understood to make it a viable alternative to lugging around big lead acid batteries. Or NiCd batteries that self discharge in a few days.

If your powertank or leisure battery is getting tired, then only your wallet stops you buying lithium.

No. FLO have not promised me a freebie for saying this! In my work I often get involved in powering equipment under unusal conditions. High and low temperature. Arduous power/weight/volume constraints. Obtaining 10 years equipment use from a single cell, etc. This means I have had lots of opportunites to work with the pros and cons of various battery technologies.

Hope this helps.

David.
