Celestron Tripod Top

I'm in a the process of making a home made pier in my yard. I think the best way to mount the head on the pier would be to use the top off my tripod as it'll be the perfect fit.

I have a CG5 GT mount. I'll need a replacement for my tripod and was wondering if all the different tripod tops fit the mount or would I need one specifically for the CG5?

I think the CG5 top is the same as the EQ5

Check around as I thought there were pier tops that could be purchased, it would save you having to dismantle the tripod and the method of fitting to a pier may be more suitable.

Ah, I was hoping I could pick up a cheap eq2/3 tripod and and use the top off that.

I've just had a look about for a pier mount, it'll probably be cheaper than the CG5 tripod.
