DIY Nikon Mod-D5100

Looks like you have the info you need between them... :)

When modding a  camera I used to have the camera inside a washing up bowl so that any small components that fell out were easy to find (well I did after doing the first one and spending ages trying to find a small screw on the living room carpet - magnet to the rescue) .

I would have a print out of the "best" guide I could find and a compartment box labelled with numbers corresponding to each stage so that anything removed at each stage went into it's corresponding compartment... I would tick of each stage as it was completed and check it off again during the rebuild....

I'm toying with the idea of doing a full spectrum mod on my old 7D II so that it can take the place of my aging full spec 350D and Baader modified 1000D for IR pass and Astro ...  With Live view AF I shouldn't need to re-shim the sensor as the imaging sensor is used for focusing and the L-series lenses all have significant travel beyond the infinity mark to make MF focusing easier...

Look forward to seeing the results from the Nikon :)

Peter...

Do you like the Baader? I'm hoping I will come out with something that images and does daytime. My understanding is that the Nokons with the BCF don't need a custom white balance, but ready for that if it happens. The combination of this Sony sensor with the True Dark current firmware and the mod, should give me some better results.

Hello,

I hope the Baader Filter for the 40D really works because the sensor of the D5100 is bigger. Other than that I'm pretty sure that you will have to apply a custom white balance as the spectral response of the sensor+filter compound is change.

Greetings
