help with CCD please

I now have an Atik Titan mono CCD and would like to understand something.

Last night, I've put it on my 9x50 finder to test it and all I could achieve for a long period of time was "snow" on Artemis.

After trials and errors (trying to get the focus right, kind of...), I did manage to see something but the frame was still very "grainy".

I will try it on my Megrez this evening if the weather is kind enough.

Is the above something to expect of a CCD?

Should I be able to see at least a much clearer picture to start off?

Later on in the evening, I swapped the Titan for my QHY5, it was a clearer picture to be honest (exposure was 2s for the QHY5 and 3s for the Titan).

thanks

SORTED !!!! it was the dreaded back focus.... I've put together some extensions I had and managed to get a very nice image.

Tried that Titan on the Megrez 72 in day light, it is a very good camera I must say for what I paid. Can't wait now to use it at night in my remote observatory.

After more reading about this back focus thing I think I got it right now.

Atik Titan: 12mm+1mm ( there is a 1 mm gap due to the length or lack off thread.... depending on which side you look at.... lol )

SX wheel: 25mm

needs 55~56mm for the flat field flattener

used a 15mm T2 Baader extension tube and some 1mm rings

just have to wait days now for another cloud free night..... :(
