polaris transit times

Recommended Posts

google "PoleFinder", it's a simple program that allows you to enter your position (long / lat) and it displays the position of polaris on a image that resembles the view through most pole scopes. If you untick the option to use system time, you can then enter the time manually until you get "polaris" in the transit position for that day. Transfer this info to your date / RA circles and then rotate the mount to match the time of observing and adjust the mount using the bolts at the foot of the mount until Polaris is in the circle.

:)

The whole point of having the setting circles so that you don't need polefinder. As you probably know, the setting circles themselves *are* a transit calculator - you don't need to download another one...

Being ten miles from Greenwich is fine - for longer distances from a local time zone you position the index marker against those east-west offset marks on the polarscope as appropriate.
