Ok so I gather from the forums that the webcam of choice is the Philips SPC880NC, even over the newer model, SPC900 because you can just flash it and turn it in to an 900.

So is it right in stating that the SPC900 is just an SPC880 with different firmware installed?

And if I cannot get hold of an SPC880, what would you recommend instead?

The SPC900 was discontinued by Philips and are very scarce. The SPC880 are relativley easy to get hold of and you can get them pre-flashed off eBay or from Morgan Cameras. A flashed 880 is effectively a 900.
