Jupiters Tilt

Recommended Posts

Hi

I have a Skywatcher 120 refractor and was observing Jupiter last night. I have had allsorts of questions about my scope which have so kindly been answered on here so far.

Anyway back to Jupiter... My scope has an erecting prism in the diagaonal, at least the image is correct the way up. I managed to get a glimpse of a band on Jupiter but it appeared to be at an angle 30-40degrees to the east of upright. I have found out that Jupiters tilt is only about 3 degrees. I think my diagonal was upright but it may have been turned a bit, to be honest I can't remember. Would a turn in the diagonal from upright cause this effect or could it be something else.

This nights observing although only short has been a steep learning curve.

Thanks

Paul
