Hi newbe in need of help

Hi

brought a celestron powerseeker at christmas not been able to use it until tonight due to clouds I can see the moon no problems so thought I would look at a star all I see is a white ball with image of the mirror holder star shape (not sure of name) am I doing something wrong help please I ahve used a 4m and 20 m eye piece but still get the same image.

welcome to the site. I hope we can help. this is a focussing issue. first use your 20mm eyepiece it will give a brighter image and be easier put things into view. your focus isn't right is the basic problem, make sure your finder scope is aligned/ during the day is a good time to do it then when its aligned point your finder at the star and move the focus till the star comes into focus
