I just got power adapter for scope and that did the trick.Used 3 star align worked like a dream and scope slewed where ever I wanted it to.What a relief and so much fun.Thanks everybody for the help Jim

Glad to hear that the power sorted the problem, my 8SE arrives this week and I will not be using batteries based on other peoples experiences. I ordered a lead and have a bench power supply so hoping for the same results as you.
