A Useful tool

Recommended Posts

I purchased a cheap Vernier gauge, a couple of quid from my local hardware store, ok it is not one of the fancy digital types but works never the less.

I have found it so useful for example when rigging up my DSLR or CCD+filter wheel I can measure the distance, once I have obtained dead on focus, between the focuser and a suitable point on the camera to a good degree of accuracy.

I note this distances down and if I change setup ie camera or scope I can reset the focus point to near spot on immediately and only need to do some small adjustments for final focus, no more guess work.

I found it useful for doing all sorts of checks and mods, one of the best couple of quid I have spent on this "hobby".
