I found these lists of brightest DSOs by object-type: useful for those who like to specialise on a particular type. All are from An Atlas of The Universe though I had to hunt a bit to find them.

The 200 Brightest Galaxies

Worth bearing in mind that these are "brightest" in terms of integrated magnitude: not necessarily the easiest to see!
