Working near Gibraltar, want to photograph the sky

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I'm a reasonably proficient amateur photographer (I'm actually a TV cameraman by trade). I have a job in Jerez (on the southern tip of Spain) coming up this week. I'd like to use the opportunity to take some photographs of the night sky, weather permitting.

I'd really like to get a shot of the Milky Way. Trouble is, I don't know which way to point the camera along the horizon, or at what time the milky way rises above the horizon (if at all, this time of year).

Can anyone help? I have a Canon 20D, and a Sigma 10mm lens, tripod, remote timer, and laptop.
