Silverlight as a tool for viewing high res photographs

I was recently playing around at different ways of storing and viewing very high resolution images such as stitched together star maps and found Silverlight's Deep Zoom to be a very efficient solution.

There's an example of the technique applied to a series of images making up the Milky Way at Milky Way map

If you click the full screen icon it becomes a very effective tool for navigating and zooming into large images.

Of course since it's a Silverlight application you can build in extra functionality so theres a lot of potential for developing some very useful viewing tools.

Does anyone else use Silverlight or other similar technologies for presenting imagery?
