Rommendations on Eye piecs and accessories

Recommended Posts

Hey folks I bought a MEADE 70AZ scope yesterday and after reading some of the stickies I have learned quite a bit.

My scope came with a 25mm, 9mm and 2x Barlow lens. What I wanted to know was what other eye pieces or accessories would you folks recommend?

The focal ratio is 8.6 also.

Also is there a kit that I can connect a DSLR to this scope?

John's suggestion int he other thread that you pick up a 32mm is a good one. I would suggest Plossl, such as the very good Celestron 32mm. You may want to consider a 6mm eyepiece, too, as the 9mm + Barlow will push your scope a little hard. An orthoscopic would be a good choice if you are going to be observing the Moon and Planets, or that scope would work well with a wide angle ep with a good eye relief.

You can get an adapter that will allow your camera to be inserted into the focuser. I believe this scope is on an altazimuth mount, though, which makes it unsuitable for photography except on the Moon. Also, the tripod may not be extremely steady, and I wouldn't risk a camera on some of the diagonals I have seen on this type of scope.

I can't swear to it, but the eps sold with this scope appear to be Kellners (marked MA, or Modified Achromat, another name for Kellners.) If that's what you have, they are fairly good eps, with a little less FOV than a Plossl. You should keep them for now, and sell them with the scope when you decide to move on to something bigger.
