Deep Sky Planner resources

Recommended Posts

This thread is to share observing plans for the Deep Sky Planner (DSP) software. https://knightware.biz/dsp/

The Cambridge Double Star Atlas (2nd Edition) by MacEvoy and Tirion is an excellent resource for those interested in observing physical doubles. The attached list contains all the doubles in the book. It is based on the Black Oak Observatory list https://www.handprint.com/ASTRO/ with additional data wrangling to get it into DSP. The list contains about 2500 doubles - listed in SAO format. To use it you will need the book to guide you through the details of each double system.

Would anyone here be interested in a review of Deep Sky Planner?

The Webb Deep Sky Society in association with Paul Dickson of the Saguaro Astronomy Club produced a list of the 110 best NGC objects. With a bit of data wrangling, here it is for DSP users.

I recommend getting the book from the Webb Society. This includes handy finder charts and space to record your observations. It was a bargain at £7 when I bought mine. Many hours of interesting fun.

I was having dinner with Professor Ian Morison a few weeks ago and we got onto the topic of "lists". He mentioned that he had compiled his own list of "best" objects and that it was on the Jodrell Bank website. Naturally I looked it up and here it is: Astronomical A-List | Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics

And here it is for users of Deep Sky Planner.
