Mono or colour guide camera?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am putting together a new guidescope based on a Skywatcher 9x50 right angle finder which I have converted for use with a guide camera. From what I have read mono is the best being more sensitive due to the lack of the bayer matrix, but is that extra sensitivity required for guiding with a 50mm scope? My particular issue being that I have been offered a Zwo ASI120MC USB3 do is very tempting. What I want to avoid is wishing I had paid more for the mono camera at some point in the future.

Thoughts?

Difference is minor.

Decide on other factors. If you have good offer for OSC model - go for it.

I use guide camera as planetary camera as well and I prefer OSC in that role so I guide with OSC.

Never had any issues because of that although I guide with OAG at 1600mm FL.
