anyone know the difference between the qhy5 and the qhy5v guiders?

Recommended Posts

Hi All, I'm about to purchase a QHY5 guidecam, and I see on www.modernastronomy.com/camerasGuider.html that Bernard has 2 types of qhy5 listed, a qhy5 and a qhy5v, both seem to have slightly different functions, I would like the best mono guide cam out of the 2 on offer, not bothered about colour or planetary imaging, just want the best sensitivity for guiding.

The QHY5 has a 1280 X 1024 pixel resolution - the QHY5v has a 752 x 480 pixel resolution. The 1280 x 1024 resolution will be by far the best for guiding as it will cover a greater area of sky. This makes it easier to pick a guide star.

The one with 752 x 480 resolution covers a smaller area of sky and in effect gives a greater magnification of the object. This is what you need for imaging planets and moon craters. It's a matter of horses for courses!
