Mount synching issues

I’m having an intermittent issue that I can’t figure out. Sometimes my mount synchs after plate solving  like a dream and sometimes it doesn’t. Tonight was typical. No joy for an hour or so then synching clicked. I am using both APT with ASTAP and also ASPS as a standalone. When one synchs the other does too. When one doesn’t synch, neither does the other.. Mount is HEQ5 and I’m using EQMOD and ASCOM.  Any ideas what lies behind this? I’m stumped!

Why it  would work intermittently is a bit of a mystery. The only think I would try is making sure all your drivers and software are fully up to date. I can't really think of anything else... Possibly a cable issue?
