Meade 10" SNT on vixen sphinx mount, unmodded canon 1000D, unguided, polar alignment a guess, 30 sec exposure jpeg modified using one step photo fix in paintshop.

Clouds rolled in packed up now whisky in hand and very nice too!

Looking good there Adam. I like the colours.

Jpegs are a bit lossy because they are compressed I would recommend setting the camera to RAW.

Using RAW gets more data to play with on the image. You can convert the RAW to TIFF then using the software that came with the camera

I actually do have the RAW data as well the camera is set to RAW+jpg, but I hadn't worked out till you said about the RAW to tiff I will have a go soon what I need to get is the right processing software which I need to determine to do stacking post processing, plus a guide cam, laptop etc etc.

Don't stop at the single exposure take a load more and let DSS work on the raws... the SNT is such a lightbucket (no offence sam) that you could do with some really short exposures probably less tahn 5s to get detail for the core/trapezium region.
