Cygnus region of Milky Way. First experiment with wide-field.

Recommended Posts

Cygnus region of Milky Way, centred on Deneb. Showing NGC 7000 the North America Nebula and the area around Sadr.

Camera lens test and my first experiment with wide-field.

I normally image at 1700mm or longer, so I thought I'd try 70mm with a camera lens. The camera was piggybacked on top of the SCT, unguided.
The only problem I had (apart from Starlink satellites), was some blue colour fringing around the stars, which I reduced in Photoshop camera raw. The image has not been sharpened at all.

Next test will be around 300mm, possibly with a different lens.

40 x 120s, with darks and bias.

Canon Eos 550D (not modified), Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM lens at 70mm, wide open at f4.
