Begginer Binocular doubt 15x70 vs 25x70 vs 20x80

Recommended Posts

Hello guys.

I am starting my star gazing hobby and wanted to buy a new pair o binoculars.

I already go star gazing with my uncle and hw knows a lot about the stars.

I have my old 7x50 and wanted to update

Right now i am looking into Celestron 15x70 and 25x70. Ones at 88€and the others 97€

I can also buy some omegon 20x80 for 100€

What do you suggest?

I plan on getting a telescope of I really love this hobby

Hi @Imsmoothi and welcome to SGL. :hello2:

I have a pair of 7x50's and 20x80's. The 20x80's are OK, though they are heavy, I recommend a joystick/pistol/trigger grip mount; (as shown below); that can be attached to a photo tripod or monopod. I would advise not to get zoom binoculars.:bino2:

I think the best advice is 'try before you buy' (if you can) and down to personal preference and what you feel comfortable with. The same applies with most things in this hobby and other hobbies and interests.

The Omegon 20x80's are the same as mine... albeit a brand name change. Many of the popular brand names are manufactured in one far-east factory and then simply re-badged.

I have 8x42 and 15x70 binoculars that I use for astronomy.  The 15x70 are right at the limit of hand-holding if you can sit in a lawn or camping chair and hold them by the objective end while jamming the eyepiece end into your eye sockets.  If I'm going to get out a tripod, I'll just get out a telescope with a binoviewer instead.
