Eye piece for Quattro f/4

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I have just got my first telescope, the Skywatcher Quattro 8" F/4 carbon along with an eq6-r. I am very enthusiastic to start along the road to astrophotography. I work nights and have 4 days off every week so I have plenty of time to start to tackle the steep learning curve ahead of me. All that being said, what with the current climate it is going to take a few weeks for my cameras to arrive along with my  guide scope.

So I am planning to get an eye piece to start to familiarise myself a bit with the mount etc.

I have been recommend by the store to get a Skywatcher Panaview 32/38mm. Is that a good choice to go with and will it work with my Skywatcher aplanatic coma corrector? (will i need an adapter)?

If you have other recommendations I'm looking to get an eye piece on a budget of about £100 or less tbh as a dont want to break the bank because I'm mainly looking to do AP.

Kind regards

Tom

A possible difficulty with such a long focal length eyepiece would be the shadow of
secondary mirror compared to your dilated pupil size. With my 8" f/4 scope, I find I
can tolerate a secondary shadow size of about 2mm  - Or maximum eyepiece focal
length about 20mm (40x). Probably best to check whether you can work with longer
fl's via cheap(er) Plossl type eyepieces before you invest heavily in better ones. 🙂

Teleview had an article on this somewhere?!? 🤔 But it is also mentioned here:
https://garyseronik.com/exploring-low-power-limits/  (See the last paragraph!)

P.S. FAST reflectors are capable of being used visually, but tend to be designed
primarily(!) (have oversized secondary mirrors) for CCD astrophotography etc. 😎
