ETX90 DEC knob doesn't feel very smooth to turn

The slow motion DEC knob on my ETX90 is a bit stiff to turn and not nice and smooth like the RA knob, is this normal? I've made sure the clutch is off. It feels like it moves in slight jerky steps rather than one smooth, continuous movement like the RA one does.
