DSO Astrophotography beginner equipment

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I am new here and I would like to get started with DSO Astrophotography.

I have been reading quite a bit on the subject and I would like to have your input on the equipment.

Here is what I have:

- I found a Skywatcher Evostar-80ED APO DS-Pro for half price.

- I have a Nikon D3100

What I am missing:

- Mount: I was thinking to go for the Skywatcher EQM-35 Pro SynScan GOTO

- Field flattener: I was thinking of adding it later on

Do you have any suggestions or comments (equipment missing or another choice for the mount).

I also understood that Canon DLSR are better suited for astrophotography. Would you recomned changing the Nikon for a Canon?

Cheers

Mike

Nikon works fine for astrophotography. Just keep it. For your scope/camera the mount works. But if you plan to upgrade your scope in the near future, a beefier one would be better. However, with your suggested mount, you'll have very nice portable setup. Others will probably come along and advise about the flattener. My guess is that you'll need it.

While you're at it; add a copy of "making every photon count" to your shopping cart.

Good luck, and have fun.
