Rubber on binos is mutating !!!!

Just dug out a pair of old Tasco zoom binos... and the "rubber" finish on the metal parts has started to decompose into chewing gum !

I thought something sticky had been spilt on them, but after a cursory "clean" with a wipe removed the goo down to metal !

Any thing I can do, short of the bin ?

You could try removing all the rubber and buying some thickish black "leatherette" materiel from a market or haberdashers somewhere, and then cutting pieces to suit your binos, and gluing the pieces onto bino bodies using either "Evilstick" (Evostick) or "Copydex" glue.

Duct tape over them and carry on. As these are older, the rubber may just have dried out, but rubber coverings are sensitive to some things you may have on your hands, such as insect repellent, which can take a toll.
