Stellarium - Custom light pollution image

I have set up a custom landscape to more accurately show the hills and houses around my observing site. However I want to go one step further and create a custom maptex_illum to show the light pollution coming from the town to the north. Has anyone tried to do this before?

Setting up the landscape was fairly painless (create PhotoSphere on phone; scale to 4096x2048; make sky transparent). However I am not going to be able to take a PhotoSphere in the dark as I doubt that the camera will have enough reference points to stitch everything together.
