Jonesing for some Comet light

Recommended Posts

All the talk about Comet Catalina has gotten me craving some Comet light (been a while since I last observed one), but I'm too lazy get up early and observe Catalina. I noticed that C/2013 X1 Panstarrs was in Pegasus, so I thought I'd give it a try before observing Luna tonight. I wasn't really expecting too much success with the Moon just past 1st quarter, but I was pleasantly surprised.

1/17/2016 - Oracle, Arizona - seeing good - trans. fair - obs. good

90mm f10 refractor

Pegasus:

C/2013 X1 Panstarrs - Comet - 36x - Medium sized, dim (washed out from Moon), round - occasional glimpses of a near stellar core/nucleus region within the coma - formed the apex of an equilateral triangle with two field stars to the west and north - resembled a faint Virgo cluster elliptical galaxy.
