I built this as soon as I got my Dob

A wood Surveyors Tripod with a 1/2 " ply base

Very Solid, Very Inexpensive, Very Portable  and VERY Steady

It can hold 180 lbs ( Ask how I know this )

If you can call a few survey companies and ask if they have an old tripod they can donate 

it would but the cost to under $ 10.00 and 1/2 hr of your time
