Amazingly Dense Star Field

Recommended Posts

I tried to take a pic of the North America with my 500mm lens last night (with tracking). The camera went flat, and I hadn't realised that being a ancient klunker this meant the CF didn't get all the images :-(

I managed to get a few, and it seems I missed by a fair margin and got 63 Cyg instead (thanks to the forum member who pointed me at Astronometry.net). But what did happen is that I ended up with a pic of a really dense part of the milky way. I've just spent ages matching bits of this image  to Stellarium. There's a spectacular planetary nebula in their (allegedly) but with a magnitude of 13.5 I can't see any sign of it :-(

Not a brilliant image, but I can't get over just how crowded the stars are!
