Milky Way

I am 52 years old and it wasn't until this year that I saw the Milky Way for the first time ever.  City-dwelling, light pollution, blah blah. Went to Kielder Forest on holiday in September, timed to coincide with new moon, taking binos and a small scope with me.  They got plenty of use but the most amazing sight to me was simply looking up at the sky with the naked eye.  I really was stunned by the sight of it arching overhead and spent many hours just looking.

Moral of story.  Get out to dark sites!

You lucky lucky thing

I haven't seen it since 2011 in France. Should I be unlucky enough to never see it again, at least I'll never forget that night walk on the road to the Galibier...a beautiful and mighty humbling experience.
